6 brands give every guest free breakfast as a standard part of the rate. The rest charge for it, unless you hold Gold, Diamond or Diamond Reserve status, in which case you get a daily food and beverage credit at most United States hotels.
Below is the brand-by-brand breakdown, plus how to get breakfast covered at the brands that normally charge, like Hilton Garden Inn.
Free breakfast by brand at a glance
The short version: at focused-service brands like Hampton and Embassy Suites, breakfast is free for every guest. At full-service brands, you need Gold or Diamond status to get it free.
Swipe the table to see every column.
| Brand | Who gets free breakfast | Typical serving window |
|---|---|---|
| Hampton, Home2 Suites, Homewood Suites, Tru, Spark | All guests, included | Around 6am to 10am on weekdays, 7am to 11am at weekends |
| Embassy Suites | Full cooked breakfast for all guests | Around 6am to 9:30am on weekdays, 7am to 10:30am at weekends |
| Hilton, Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, LXR, Curio, Canopy, DoubleTree, Signia, Tapestry | Gold and Diamond members | The hotel restaurant hours, often 6:30am to 10:30am |
| Hilton Garden Inn | Gold and Diamond (daily food credit) | Garden Grille, usually 6am to 10am |
Those windows are the common pattern, not a rule. Hilton sets breakfast hours hotel by hotel and publishes no brand-wide time, so check your own property. The serving hours section below says where each hotel lists its hours.
Does Hilton have free breakfast? The short answer
Free breakfast is built into the all-suite and select-service brands that compete on value: Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Hampton by Hilton, Tru by Hilton and Spark by Hilton. Book any of those and breakfast is included for everyone in the room, no status required.
Full-service brands like Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Hilton Garden Inn, DoubleTree, Conrad and Waldorf Astoria do not include free breakfast in the base rate. At those, breakfast is either a paid restaurant meal or a benefit you earn through status.
Free breakfast by Hilton brand
Here is how the main brands break down.
Included for all guests: Embassy Suites serves a free cooked-to-order breakfast and an evening reception. Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites both include a free hot breakfast aimed at longer stays. Hampton by Hilton includes a free hot breakfast. Tru by Hilton and Spark by Hilton include a free breakfast built around grab-and-go items. Canopy by Hilton includes a small breakfast for Hilton Honors members at most properties.
Not included in the base rate: Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Hilton Garden Inn, DoubleTree by Hilton, Curio Collection, Tapestry Collection, Conrad, LXR and Waldorf Astoria. At these you either pay for breakfast or use a status benefit.

Hilton Garden Inn breakfast: paid, and how to get it covered
Hilton Garden Inn is the brand people ask about most, because it feels like it should include breakfast and it does not. Hilton Garden Inn has a cooked-to-order restaurant breakfast that you pay for, usually around 12 to 18 dollars per person depending on the location.
You can get that breakfast covered 2 ways. The first is status: Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve members get a daily food and beverage credit at United States Hilton Garden Inn hotels, which you can apply to breakfast. The second is to book a rate that bundles breakfast, which some Hilton Garden Inn properties offer.
Free breakfast as a Gold or Diamond benefit
Status is the most reliable way to get free breakfast at Hilton. Gold, Diamond and the new Diamond Reserve tier all get a breakfast benefit at brands that do not include it.
Outside the United States, that benefit is a free continental or full breakfast for the elite member and usually 1 guest. Inside the United States, Hilton replaced free breakfast with a daily food and beverage credit several years ago, which I cover next.
The fastest way to get this status without staying 25-plus nights is through a credit card. The Hilton Surpass card gives Gold, and the Hilton Aspire card gives Diamond.
How the United States food and beverage credit works
At United States hotels, Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve members get a daily food and beverage credit instead of a set free breakfast. The credit is a dollar amount you can spend on food or drink at the hotel, including breakfast.
The amount varies by property. A common structure is around 18 to 25 dollars per registered guest per night, for up to 2 guests in the room, so a couple can see 36 to 50 dollars a day.
The credit is flexible. At a resort you might put it toward a pricier sit-down breakfast or use it at the bar. At Resorts World Las Vegas, for example, the Gold and Diamond credit works at several on-property restaurants.
How the credit compares to free breakfast abroad
Travelers debate which is better, the United States credit or the free breakfast you get elsewhere. The credit is more flexible because you choose where to spend it. The free breakfast abroad is simpler and can be worth more at a luxury property with an expensive buffet.
On balance, the credit is the better deal at select-service hotels where breakfast is cheap, and the free buffet wins at high-end international properties where breakfast runs 40 dollars or more a head.
What time Hilton breakfast starts and ends
Hilton does not publish a single breakfast time. Each hotel sets its own, and the brand pages on hilton.com carry no serving hours at all (hilton.com, retrieved August 20, 2026). Anyone quoting you one time for a whole brand is guessing.
Your hotel lists its hours in 3 places. The hotel page on hilton.com under Dining, where the breakfast outlet lists its hours. The Hilton Honors app, under your reservation, once you are within a few days of arrival. The front desk, which is the only one of the 3 that will tell you about a holiday change or a kitchen closure.
What the pattern looks like in practice: at the included-breakfast brands, service usually opens at 6am on weekdays and runs to 10am, and shifts an hour later at weekends, so 7am to 11am. Tru follows that same shape, with its Top It breakfast bar open from around 6am to 10am on weekdays. Hilton Garden Inn is different, because the Garden Grille is a paid restaurant, and it typically serves breakfast from 6am to 10am on weekdays.
The end time is the one that catches people. Breakfast at a Hampton or a Home2 usually stops at 10am on a weekday, and the buffet starts being cleared before that. If you are checking out on an early flight, ask the night before whether the hotel will put out a grab-and-go bag; most of the included-breakfast brands will.
Airport hotels and city-center properties on a business pattern often open earlier, from 5am or 5:30am. Resort properties often run later. Both are property decisions, not brand policy.
How to confirm breakfast before you book
Brand rules are a good guide, but always confirm at the property level, since breakfast can vary by location and country.
Check the hotel’s page on hilton.com under amenities or dining, where included breakfast is usually listed. If it is not clear, the hotel’s own description or a quick call to the front desk settles it. For elite benefits, the food and beverage credit shows up at check-in and on your folio, not always in the booking flow.
This matters most at brands that sit on the line. A DoubleTree will not include breakfast, but some properties bundle it into certain rates. A Hilton Garden Inn never includes it for free, but a package rate might. Confirming saves you from assuming a free breakfast that is not there.
The best brands for a free-breakfast trip
If a free breakfast is a priority, book the brands that build it in. For a family or a longer stay, Embassy Suites is hard to beat, since the cooked-to-order breakfast and evening reception together can replace 2 paid meals a day.
Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites are the extended-stay picks, both with free hot breakfast and in-room kitchens that cut your food costs further. For a quick overnight, Hampton by Hilton gives a reliable free hot breakfast at a lower price point.
Stack a free-breakfast brand with Gold or Diamond status and you get the best of both. The included breakfast covers the morning, and the food and beverage credit at full-service stays covers a meal there. That combination is how I keep food costs down across a mixed trip.
Which Hilton credit cards get you the breakfast benefit
If you do not stay enough nights to earn status, a card is the shortcut to the breakfast benefit.
The Hilton Surpass card includes complimentary Gold status, which gives you the daily food and beverage credit. The Hilton Aspire card includes Diamond status, the credit, and a resort credit on top. The no-annual-fee Hilton Honors card gives Silver, which does not include the breakfast benefit.
Compare all of them in my best Hilton credit card guide before you apply.
Frequently asked questions
What time does Hilton breakfast end?
At the brands that include it, breakfast usually ends at 10am on a weekday and 11am at a weekend. That is the common pattern. Hilton sets hours per hotel, so check the Dining section of your hotel page on hilton.com or ask the front desk the night before.
What are Tru by Hilton breakfast hours?
Tru includes its Top It breakfast bar for all guests, and most locations serve it from around 6am to 10am on weekdays, with a later finish at weekends. Individual Tru hotels set their own times, and the hotel page on hilton.com lists the current one.
Do Hilton Garden Inns have free breakfast?
No. Breakfast at Hilton Garden Inn is a paid restaurant meal at the Garden Grille. Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve members can put their daily food and beverage credit against it at United States hotels, which covers most of a standard breakfast.
Does Hilton give free breakfast?
Some Hilton brands do and some do not. Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Hampton, Tru and Spark include free breakfast for all guests. Full-service brands like Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn and DoubleTree do not, though Gold and higher members get a food and beverage credit in the United States.
Does Hilton Garden Inn have free breakfast?
No. Hilton Garden Inn has a paid restaurant breakfast, usually 12 to 18 dollars per person. Gold, Diamond and Diamond Reserve members can cover it with their daily food and beverage credit at United States locations.
Do Hilton Gold members get free breakfast?
Yes, in effect. Gold members get a daily food and beverage credit at United States hotels and a free continental or full breakfast at most hotels outside the United States. The credit can be used for breakfast.
Which Hilton brands include free breakfast?
Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Hampton by Hilton, Tru by Hilton and Spark by Hilton include free breakfast for every guest. Canopy includes a small breakfast at most properties.
Is the food credit better than free breakfast?
The United States credit is more flexible because you pick where to spend it, and it often beats a cheap select-service breakfast. A free breakfast at a luxury hotel abroad can be worth more if the buffet is expensive.
