This is a points and booking guide to Washington Hilton, a Hilton Hotels & Resorts property in Washington DC. It covers what a night costs in Hilton Honors points, the room types, what Gold and Diamond members get and how to book direct with Hilton.
The Washington Hilton has 1,107 guest rooms and suites across 10 floors at 1919 Connecticut Avenue NW, at the top of Dupont Circle where Connecticut meets Columbia Road (Hilton.com, retrieved August 13, 2026). It opened on 25 March 1965 to a design by William B. Tabler, whose curved double-arc plan gave almost every room an outside wall (DC Historic Sites, retrieved August 13, 2026).
It hosts the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, and on 30 March 1981 President Reagan was shot outside its T Street entrance. Neither fact tells you much about staying here. What matters for a booking is that this is a working convention hotel with 118,000 square feet of meeting space, so the rate swings hard with the DC calendar (Hilton.com, retrieved August 13, 2026).

Location and what is walkable
Dupont Circle station on the Red Line is roughly a 10-minute walk south (Hilton.com location page, retrieved August 13, 2026). The U Street station on the Green and Yellow lines sits about 7 blocks east, which a 2026 conference flyer for the hotel gives as the alternative for anyone coming from Reagan National on the Yellow line (National Low Income Housing Coalition, Washington Hilton parking and Metro flyer, 2026).
On foot you get Adams Morgan in about 8 minutes north, Dupont Circle in about 12 minutes south, and Embassy Row along Massachusetts Avenue half a mile away (Hilton.com location page, retrieved August 13, 2026). The 18th Street restaurant strip in Adams Morgan is the reason to stay up here, and Rock Creek Park is a short walk west if you run.
The National Mall is not walkable in any useful sense. Hilton lists downtown at 1.5 miles and DAR Constitution Hall at 1 mile (Hilton.com location page, retrieved August 13, 2026). Take the Red Line to Metro Center or Smithsonian and change, or budget 25 minutes each way in a car.
Reagan National is 6 miles and about 20 minutes by car. Dulles is 27 miles and about 40 minutes (Hilton.com location page, retrieved August 13, 2026). The Red Line reaches Reagan National with one change and no traffic risk, which is the better call on a conference morning.
Rooms and which to book
Hilton.com sells a standard room with 1 king or 2 doubles, a king corner room, a king corner room with monument view, king superior high floor and superior corner high floor rooms, a junior suite, and 4 named suites: Chief of State, Kalorama, Dupont and Presidential (Hilton.com rooms and suites page, retrieved August 13, 2026).
Book the corner. The curve puts corner rooms at the widest point of the arc with 2 exposures, and monument view is the only category Hilton sells with a stated view. High floor superior rooms are the next best thing on a points booking.
The main caution is room condition. A standing Oyster.com review notes that standard guest rooms were left out of the 2009 to 2010 renovation and reads them as dated (Oyster.com, retrieved August 13, 2026). Hilton cites further work in 2017, 2020 and 2024 but has not published what the last 2 covered (LRA public relations release, January 17, 2025). Ask at check-in which floors were done most recently. The suite count against the 1,107 total is not published.
Dining on site
4 outlets, all listed on Hilton’s own dining page as of August 13, 2026:
- District Line Café & Market, grab-and-go with Starbucks coffee, 6am to 2am daily. The 2am close is the useful detail on a late arrival.
- Four Oaks, American breakfast and lunch, 6:30am to 2pm daily.
- McClellan’s Sports Bar, 15 screens, 4pm to midnight daily.
- Sidecar, tapas, flatbreads and cocktails, 3pm to 10pm daily.
Poolside service runs seasonally (Hilton.com, retrieved August 13, 2026). There is no signature restaurant, which is fine given that Adams Morgan is 8 minutes uphill.
Pool, health club and amenities
The outdoor pool sits on a raised deck with a view toward the Washington Monument and a separate shallow section for children. It runs 1 May to 31 October, 6am to 10pm daily (Hilton.com health club page, retrieved August 13, 2026). A 10pm close on a summer evening is unusual for a city hotel pool and worth using.
The LivingWell Health Club opens 5:30am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 6am to 10pm at weekends, with Peloton bikes, free weights, TRX, and scheduled yoga and spin classes (Hilton.com health club page, retrieved August 13, 2026). Personal training and nutrition sessions are bookable.
Also on site: a FedEx Office business center, a Hertz desk, a gift shop and Digital Key, and the hotel is pet friendly (Hilton.com amenities page, retrieved August 13, 2026). A spa is not published.
Fees, parking and getting around
Hilton does not publish a destination fee figure on the property page. A third-party tracker listed $28.99 per room per night, last updated November 3, 2025 (ResortFeeChecker.com, retrieved August 13, 2026). Treat that as a signal, not a quote, and read the rate rules before you book.
Self-parking is $58 per day including tax, per the hotel’s own 2026 conference parking flyer (National Low Income Housing Coalition, 2026). Older event flyers cite $32, $43 and $56, which shows how fast this number moves. A current overnight valet rate is not published. At $58 a night, 4 nights of parking costs more than most people save by driving in from Baltimore.
Hilton Honors points and earning
Hilton prices awards from demand, so there is no fixed chart. At a 1,107-room convention hotel, award pricing tracks the meeting calendar more than the season.
Silver, Gold and Diamond all get the fifth night free on standard room award stays of 5 nights or more, capped at 4 free nights per stay (Hilton Honors terms and conditions, effective July 15, 2026). On a conference week that runs Sunday to Thursday, booking the fifth night is often cheaper than booking 4.
Work out whether to pay cash with my Hilton points value guide, which sets a baseline cent-per-point figure you can test any night against.
The executive lounge, and what Gold and Diamond get
The hotel has an executive lounge. Hilton.com ties it to the Executive Floor room and Executive Suite categories rather than presenting it as an automatic elite benefit at this property (Hilton.com rooms page, retrieved August 13, 2026).
Under the Hilton Honors terms effective July 15, 2026, Diamond members get complimentary lounge access for themselves and 1 registered guest at hotels with executive lounges, with a carve-out for room types branded as “Club” accommodation. What Gold and Diamond receive here specifically, including whether breakfast is served in the lounge or as a restaurant credit, is not published. My guide to Hilton executive lounges and The Club at Hilton covers where that carve-out is being applied.
Points versus cash
Use points on WHCA dinner weekend in late April, on National Prayer Breakfast week, and during cherry blossom peak. Those are the 3 windows where the cash rate detaches from the rest of the DC market and a fixed points price wins.
Pay cash in August and over the winter holidays, when Congress is out and the meeting calendar is thin. Cash rates fall further than award prices do, so the cents per point you would get on a redemption drops with them.
Hilton free night certificates have no category cap, so a peak week here is exactly where one earns out.
Best time to visit
The National Park Service predicted a peak bloom of 29 March to April 1, 2026 for the Tidal Basin cherry blossoms, with the display lasting roughly 7 to 10 days after peak (National Park Service, March 5, 2026). Peak bloom week is the single most expensive stretch of the DC hotel year.
The House 2026 calendar puts a district work period through 12 August and a further recess in October (House Press Gallery 2026 calendar, retrieved August 13, 2026). Congressional recess weeks are the value windows.
2 hotel dates to avoid unless you are attending: the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in late April, and the National Prayer Breakfast, hosted here since 1966 (LRA public relations release, January 17, 2025). Both bring security perimeters and a full lobby on top of the rate.
The short version, by window:
| Window | What drives it | What to book |
|---|---|---|
| Cherry blossom peak, late March to early April | The National Park Service predicted 29 March to April 1, 2026 at the Tidal Basin, with 7 to 10 days after peak | Points |
| White House Correspondents dinner weekend, late April | The hotel is the venue. Cash rates detach from the rest of the DC market | Points |
| National Prayer Breakfast week | Same effect, citywide demand concentrated on this address | Points |
| August | Congress is out. The House 2026 calendar runs a district work period through 12 August | Cash |
| Winter holidays | Meeting calendar is thin and cash rates fall further than award prices do | Cash |
Who it is best for
It suits conference attendees first, because 118,000 square feet of meeting space across 3 floors means your session is probably in the building (Hilton.com, retrieved August 13, 2026). It suits points travelers second, because the room count keeps award pricing sane outside peak weeks.
It suits anyone whose DC is Dupont, Adams Morgan and Kalorama. Against the other large DC Hiltons it wins on character and on the pool, and loses on location if your plans are museum-led. If your itinerary is the Mall and the Capitol, book downtown.
The 1965 design and the 1981 shooting
Construction started on 25 June 1962 and the hotel opened on 25 March 1965, developed by Uris Buildings Corporation to a design by William B. Tabler (Wikipedia, retrieved August 13, 2026). The curved precast concrete facade was drawn to put as many rooms as possible on an outside wall, and it still reads as the most distinctive large hotel building in the city.
On 30 March 1981 at 2:27pm, President Reagan was shot as he left by the T Street NW lower-level entrance after speaking to the Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO in the International Ballroom. Press Secretary James Brady, DC police officer Thomas Delahanty and Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy were also wounded (Historical Marker Database, marker text submitted March 22, 2016).
The site is marked. A historical marker stands beside that T Street entrance, not the main Connecticut Avenue doors (Historical Marker Database, retrieved August 13, 2026). The entrance is still in use.
It was renamed Hilton Washington in 1998, then took its original name back after a $150 million renovation that ran from 2009 to May 2010 and added a 38,500 square foot exhibit hall (Lendlease project page, retrieved August 13, 2026). The lobby was reworked in 2017 to echo the original 1960s geometry. It marked 60 years in March 2025.
