Best for: A beach stay steps from Pier 60, especially on points, which skips the resort charge.
Watch for: A $35 nightly resort charge on cash stays and valet-only parking at $40 a day.

My stay
My wife and I spent 2 nights at Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa in June 2020. It’s a Hilton Hotels & Resorts property on Mandalay Avenue, on the sand at Clearwater Beach.
I booked a king room with a Gulf view on a 2X Points package at $327.54 a night. Room tax was 13%: $22.93 a night in state tax and $19.65 in Pinellas County tax.
2 add-ons posted each night. The resort charge was $25.00 plus $3.25 in tax, and guest parking was $25.00.
The folio has no food or drink charges and no Diamond food and beverage credit.

- Location: 400 Mandalay Avenue, on 10 acres of beach, 21 miles west of Tampa. Hilton lists Pier 60 at 0.10 miles, Captain Memo’s at 0.20 miles, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium at 1 mile, the city center at 3 miles and Blue Jays spring training at 8 miles. St. Pete-Clearwater airport is 15 miles away and Tampa International 20 miles.
- Beach and pool: 4 covered beachside decks, cabanas, a tiki bar and an outdoor pool.
- Spa and fitness: a spa and a fitness center.
- Rooms: Gulf view kings, rooms with 2 double beds facing the harbor or the city, and 1-bedroom Palm Suites with a balcony.
- Resort charge: $35 a night. Changed since my stay: my 2020 folio shows $25. It includes WiFi, bike rentals, morning yoga, pool and beach activities, 1 hour of non-motorized water sports from 9 am to 12 pm, 2 bottled waters a day, a photo shoot with 1 print, access to Clearwater Beach Fitness, kids’ crafts and 10% off spa merchandise.
- Parking: valet only, $40 a day. Changed since my stay: my 2020 folio shows guest parking at $25 a night.
- Pets: not allowed.
- Breakfast: a buffet, for a fee.
- WiFi: included in the resort charge.
- Check-in and check-out: 4 pm and 11 am.

Prices on hilton.com on October 14, 2026, for 1 night with 2 adults, on the flexible rate before tax. Cents per point is the cash rate divided by the points price. Wednesday, November 11 was sold out, so the midweek night is November 18.

My room type, the Gulf view king, priced at 112,000 and 123,000 points, or 0.29 cents per point. Points look better once you add what a cash night carries: Hilton waives resort charges on reward stays, and here that’s $35 a night plus tax.
Book it if
- You want to be on the beach. Pier 60 is 0.10 miles away.
- You’re booking on points and want the $35 resort charge waived.
- You’ll use what the resort charge covers, such as the bikes, the yoga and an hour of water sports.
Skip it if
- You’re traveling with a pet. The resort doesn’t allow them.
- You’re driving and paying cash. Valet at $40 plus the $35 resort charge adds $75 a night before tax.
- You want a Gulf view on points. My room type ran 112,000 to 123,000 points on the sample nights.

- Points value: weak. The Gulf view king returned 0.29 cents per point on both sample nights, and the cheapest room 0.38.
- Diamond benefits: nothing posted on my folio.
- Location: strong. The resort is on the beach, 0.10 miles from Pier 60.
- Cost beyond the room: high. The resort charge rose from $25 to $35 a night and parking from $25 to $40, with no self parking.
- Room condition: my records don’t cover the room, so it doesn’t move the score.
